An Important Purchase

We are proud be a full-service moving company for Charleston and the surrounding communities including Summerville, North Charleston, Goose Creek, Mount Pleasant, Columbia, and other South Carolina communities by managing their local and long-distance moves, packing, and storage.

We credit our success to our strong history and high standards of excellence. Our story continues with a phone call from Lou Stiverson in 1980. Lou was the brother-in-law of my friend Tim Cook and the owner of Cook Transfer and Storage, a company that had been successful in the moving business since the ’40s.

Lou wanted to know if I was interested in buying Cook Transfer. He was ready to get out of the moving business. Tim wasn’t able to purchase and take over the company because his plate was full with his own moving company, and he was considering moving on from the moving business. I was the next in line, even though I was not officially part of the family. I closed my McLean-Barcroft moving company and bought the five-truck operation of Cook Transfer on August 1, 1980. I suddenly had about 15 employees, and I was able to get off the trucks.

Tim had earned a finance degree from college. In 1981 he sold his moving business to his partner and came to work for me part time while waiting to get a job with Prudential. It was great to be working with Tim again as I happily managed Cook Transfer and Storage.
